The Hudson Valley Community College softball program dropped its first two games of the season as they continue to shake the rust off from a long winter season in Myrtle Beach, SC.

GAME ONE: Joliet 13, Hudson Valley 0 (5 innings)

In the opening game of the day, the Vikings gave the game away early as they couldn't overcome the first-game jitters as they committed six errors and gave up nine runs in the fourth inning, which put the game away for good, in favor of Joliet.

Katie Mannis was one of five Vikings to record a hit in the game. Mannis connected for a double in the second inning and Abby Taylor, Hannah Taylor, Kaylee LaForest and Jody Rogers each finished the game with one hit.

On the mound, Carly Gemmett took the loss for the Vikings as she allowed nine runs on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched. Gemmett also struck out eight batters and gave up four walks.

GAME TWO: CC of Rhode Island 11, Hudson Valley 7

The Vikings played much better in the second game of the day, but missed some opportunities to score runs and added a few defensive miscues, which allowed Rhode Island to produce two big innings with five runs in the second and three runs in the sixth.

Offensively, the Vikings collected 11 hits and were led by LaForest, Rogers and Maryssa Sano, who each tallied two hits in the game. The Vikings connected for a big fly in the seventh inning when Abby Taylor sent a pitch over the centerfield fence for the team's first home run of the season.

Katie Mannis took the loss on the mound, but she pitched a great game to keep the Vikings within reach of Rhode Island. She pitched a complete game, tossing six innings and allowed 11 runs on 10 hits, while striking out two batters.
