In a meeting a nationally-ranked teams on Sunday in Rochester, the Hudson Valley Community College softball team split with Monroe Community College. Monroe won the opener, 2-1, and Hudson Valley took the nightcap, 5-4.
Hudson Valley, ranked No. 10 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, runs its record to 14-6 and 13-1 in Region III action. Third-ranked Monroe is 21-5 and 11-1 in regional play.
Sophomore Annemarie Nelson (Nassau/Columbia High School) had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI to lead Hudson Valley to the win in the second game. The Vikings also capitalized off four Monroe errors.
Sophomore Mindy McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) finished with two hits and drove in the Lady Vikings lone run in the opener.
