The Hudson Valley Community College (9-5/8-0 Mountain Valley Conference) softball team swept a doubleheader from SUNY Cobleskill (4-6/2-2 MVC) earlier today in Troy, upping its winning streak to nine games. Hudson Valley won the opener, 7-2, and the nightcap, 13-0.
Sophomores Reality Price (Nassau/Columbia High School) and Mindy McDonough (Troy/Lansingburgh High School) each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Lady Vikings attack in the opener. Freshman pitcher Laura Rogers (Schuylerville/Greenwich High School) pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits. She struck out 11 and walked two.
Freshman Ashley Byerwalters (Coeymans Hollow/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) was three-for-three and freshman Natalie Schroll (Loudonville/Holy Names) was two-for-two for Hudson Valley in the nightcap.
Freshman pitcher Kim Wintergerst (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School) tossed her second consecutive shutout to improve her record to 5-1 on the year. She's only allowed one earned run in 31.1 innings of work this season. She struck out seven and walked none in the game.
