The Hudson Valley Community College softball team has won seven straight games after sweeping a doubleheader from SUNY Delhi Saturday afternoon. Hudson Valley won the opener, 20-1, and the nightcap, 13-0.
Hudson Valley pounded out 18 hits in the opener. Freshman Ashley Byerwalters (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) was five-for-five with two RBI and four runs scored. Sophomore Annemarie Nelson (Nassau/Columbia High School) finished with two hits and drove in six runs. Freshman Kayle Countermine (Schenectady/Schalmont High School) was three-for-four with an RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Jessalyn Hotaling (Coeymans Hollow/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) picked up the win on the mound. She allowed one unearned run on one hit, striking out five and walking three.
Freshman Kim Wintergerst (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School) tossed a three-hit shutout for the Lady Vikings in the second game. She struck out six and walked none.
Byerwalters and freshman Laura Rogers (Greenwich/Schuylerville High School) each had three hits and three RBI to lead Hudson Valley at the plate.
