Hudson Valley Community College (5-5) rallied from three runs down to defeat defending Region III champion and national runner-up Corning Community College, 5-4, in the nightcap of a doubleheader played earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the first game, 2-0.
Sophomore catcher Ashley Daurio (Johnsonville/Hoosic Valley High School) lined a two-run single to left field that capped off a four-run fifth inning for Hudson Valley in the nightcap. Sophomore Natalie Schroll (Loudonville/Holy Names) added two hits in the game.
Freshman pitcher Kim Wintergerst (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School) picked up both wins for Hudson Valley on the mound. She pitched a complete game four-hitter in the opener, striking out six and walking two. In the second game, she pitched the final five innings of relief and only allowed one run on three hits.
Freshman Laura Rogers (Greenwich/Schuylerville High School) had a two-run single for Hudson Valley in the opener.
