The Hudson Valley Community College (1-5) softball team capitalized off two sixth-inning SUNY Canton errors in a 3-2 win over the Northstars earlier today in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Freshman Ashley Daurio (Johnsonville/Hoosic Valley High School) reached base on an error to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. After a walk and a fielder's choice, sophomore Reality Price's (Albany/Columbia High School) fly ball to center field was dropped, which allowed Daurio to score the winning run.
Freshman Natalie Schroll (Loudonville/Holy Names) led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Lady Vikings an early 1-0 lead. Schroll also walked twice in the game. Freshman Ashley Byerwalters (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) added a double for Hudson Valley.
Sophomore pitcher Jessalyn Hotaling (Coeymans Hollow/ Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) allowed three hits and two runs in five innings of work for Hudson Valley. She struck out seven batters. Freshman Kim Wintergerst (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School) pitched the final two scoreless innings to pick up the win.
