Cross Country Concludes Regular Season, Prepares for Regionals

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's cross country programs competed in one of the longest running invitationals, the 25th annual James Earley Invitational, hosted by Westfield State University in Westfield, Mass. 

The men's team started the day off early at 10:30 a.m. with hundreds of individuals competing in the annual invitational. T he Vikings top runner was Shazim Permaul, placed 12th overall with an official time of 26:14. Trevor Dzikowicz joined Permaul as the only two Vikings runners to finish inside the top-100 in the congested field. Eric Zumpe and Garrick Smith-Growick finished 102nd and 103rd, respectively. Dzikowicz posted a final time of 28:50 and Smith-Growick finished with an official time of 29:39.

Rounding out the rest of the men's team is Jakob Quail (29:57), Benjamin Bulan (34:47), Martin Benoit(36:23) and Dermot O'Connor (38:29).

The women's team closed out the day with Olivia Skylstad earning the top-finish for the Vikings. Skylstad placed 90th overall, in a field with nearly 200 individual runners, and posted an official time of 21:42. 

Eva Sgambettera was the next best finisher for the Vikings as she placed 129th with an official time of 23:19. Rounding out the women's team scores for the Vikings were Hickory Whelan (151st – 25:03),  Ellicia Swedish 153rd – 25:13), and Elizabeth Erno (167th  – 27:02 

The cross country programs concluded its regular season as they will now prepare for the upcoming NJCAA Region 3 Championships, hosted by Finger Lakes Community College on October 30 in Canandaigua, NY.
