The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs are off to a strong start to the NJCAA Region 3 Championships as the member institutions competed in the heptathlon, decathlon and 10K events at the SUNY Cortland Classic on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20 in Cortland, NY.

The results among the Region 3 institutions counted towards the overall team scoring for the upcoming NJCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday, May 4^th at HVCC. Dylan Lawless and Christopher Hertle gave the Vikings a nice bump as they placed first and second among Region 3 competitors in the men's decathon. Lawless posted a total score of 4289 and Hertle finished with a score of 3479.

In the men's 10,000m event, Adam Blough placed second behind Finger Lakes' Zach Lester. Blough finished the event with a time of 40:48.73. In the women's 10,000m event, Rebecca Martin also placed second among Region 3 competitors and posted a time of 49.12.52.

The track and field program will compete next week at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI on Friday, April 26^th. The event will be the final tune up before the NJCAA Region 3 Championships on May 4^th at Hudson Valley Community College.
