Track and Field Grabs 20 Top-10 Finishes at UAlbany Meet

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field program performed well at the Bobbi Palma Spring Classic, hosted by UAlbany on Friday afternoon as the two programs combined for 20 top-10 finishes and two event wins.

Ben Ross took home the win in the men's 400m event as he posted a final time of 50.75 seconds. Ross edged a pair of UAlbany athletes include an upperclassman who placed second by .08 seconds to Ross. Ross also ran the anchor position for the men's 4x100 relay and guided the team to victory with a time of 43.70 seconds.

Raj Hillhouse had a fantastic meet as he placed sixth overall in the men's 100m dash and improved on his personal-best with a time of 11.37 seconds. Jordan Goddard was right behind Hillhouse as he placed seventh overall with a time of 11.40 seconds.

In the men's 200m dash, Kejhaune Lester earned a top-5 finish as he crossed the line with a time of 22.44 seconds. Kyler Alston and Chauncey Khamani put up strong numbers in the men's 400m Hurdles event, both garnering top-5 finishes. Alston placed second with a time of 56.09 seconds and Khamani stopped the clock at 1:03. 43.

In the distance races, Ian Shaw tallied a time of 2:12.65 in the men's 800m race, which was good for a ninth-place finish.

Hudson Valley also finished strong in the men's and women's throwing and jumping events. Sisters Jessica and Angelica Slingerland earned top-10 finishes in the women's javelin throw. Jessica placed fifth overall with a max throw of 24.07m and Angelica finished seventh with a throw of 21.70m. Abigale Dunlavey continues to improve in the women's long jump as she finished the day in 10th place with a jump of 4.39m. For the men, Brooks Robson narrowly missed breaking another school record as he finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.34m.

Antonio Filippone and Iamies Hassan garnered top-10 finishes in the men's and women's shot put events. Filippone finished eighth with a throw of 10.69m and Hassan placed ninth overall with a distance of 9.32m.

Up next for the track and field program is the Capital District Classic at RPI on Friday, April 26th for the program's final tune-up before the NJCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday, May 4th at Hudson Valley Community College.
