The Hudson Valley Community College men's men's and women's track and field program returned to action as they competed at the RPI Under the Lights meet on Friday evening at RPI in Troy, NY.

The men's team placed seventh overall with 42 points and the women's team placed 10th overall with 13 team points.

The meet was highlighted by Brooks Robson, who set the school record in the long jump. Robson broke the long jump record which was previously owned by Mike Loszynski, who jumped 6.87-meters on April 14, 1981. Robson set the record on his fifth jump of the day, jumping a record-breaking distance of 6.97-meters (22' 10.5").

Outside of the record-breaking performance, Robson also won the event's triple jump, defeating 11 other student-athletes from a variety of four-year institutions. Robson won the triple jump with an official jump of 14.11-meters (46' 3.5").

Dylan Lawless scored six points for the team as he placed third overall in the men's high jump event. Lawless cleared three jumps on the day and finished with a final height of 1.75-meters (5' 8.75").

In the men's 400-meter hurdles event, Kyler Alston had a great showing as he placed second overall and added eight points to the overall team score. Alston crossed the finish line with a final time of 57.29 seconds. Chauncey Khamani also participated in the event and placed 10th overall with a time of 1:05.29.

On the women's side, Taiwo Omoya hit an NJCAA nationals qualifying mark after she placed fifth overall in the women's 400m dash event. She crossed the finish line with a time of 1:04.84. In the women's triple jump, Abigale Dunlavey placed sixth overall and added three team points as she reached a final height of 9.83-meters (32' 3").

Up next for the track and field program is the NJCAA Region 3 for the Decathlon, Heptathlon and the 10K events, hosted by SUNY Cortland on Friday, April 19th and Saturday, April 20th. Members of the team who are not competing in the Region 3 events will compete in the Bobbi Palma Spring Invitational at UAlbany on the same day, Friday, April 19.
