The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team's (9-7) defeated Jefferson Community College 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Hudson Valley's offense exploded for a season-high nine goals as three Vikings recorded multiple goals in the win. Ryan Euell (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck) kicked off the scoring for the Vikings with back-to-back goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Thilo Bell (Cohoes/Cohoes) and Ethan Thomas (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) each added a goal for Hudson Valley in the first half to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead at the half.

In the second half, Jefferson began to tire as they were limited to 11 players for today's game. The Vikings took advantage by substituting fresh players to keep the pressure on the Jefferson defense. Hudson Valley put five more goals on the board in the second with Asan Anarkulov (Scottsdale, Ariz./Coronado) and Colton Yetto (Hoosick Falls/Tamarac) each scoring twice in the the half.

Cetin Karaca (Guilderland/Guilderland) also scored for the Vikings on a cross from the left side of the field that placed just out of the reach of the Jefferson goalkeeper and found the back of the net for the goal.

The Vikings secured the No. 7 seed in the 2017 NJCAA Region III tournament and will host No. 10 Finger Lakes at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Outdoor Athletic Complex. The Vikings dropped the 2017 season opener at Finger Lakes 1-0 on August 31.
