Men's Bowling Places Seventh at Nationals; Qualifies for Sectionals

The Hudson Valley Community College men's bowling team participated in and finished seventh overall at the NJCAA National Tournament in Buffalo, N.Y. on Friday and Saturday, March 2 – 3, 2018.

As a team, the Vikings bowled 21 games and tallied a total score of 11,937 pins. The team totaled a score of 5,203 pins in the singles and doubles portion of the tournament.

Individually, Hudson Valley had three student-athletes finish inside the overall top-50 with Spencer McClellan (Troy/Lansingburgh) leading the way in 16th place. McClellan totaled a scored of 2,172 pins and averaged 181.0 per game.

Garrett Bartlett (Brunswick/Tamarac) bowled in 11 games and finished in 28th place with a total score of 2,062 pins. Bartlett averaged 187.5 per game during the two-day tournament.  Nathan Laustrup (Troy/Lansingburgh) placed 34th overall with a total pin score of 1,972 and a per game average of 179.3 in 11 games bowled.

Donald Baker (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk), Joshua McCart (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls), Dominick Ippolito (Waterford/Waterford-Halfmoon) and David Shaw (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) rounds out the remaining Vikings team in the National Tournament. Baker placed 65th overall with a score of 1,751. McCart finished 73rd with a score of 1,601, Ippolito placed 77th with a score of 1,531 and Shaw came in 90th place with a total score of 1,141 in eight games bowled.

The men's bowling team qualified for the National Sectionals, which includes the nation's top bowling programs, regardless of collegiate level. In order to qualify, the bowling team must be ranked as one of the top 80 bowling programs in the nation. The team will participate in the Sectional Round on Friday, March 9 through Saturday, March 10 in Stratford, N.J.
