Colonie's Dan Ahl Currently Tops the Nation With a 239.8 Season Average
Sophomore Dan Ahl (Loudonville/Colonie High School) rolled a nine-game score of 2,141 to lead the Hudson Valley Community College men's bowling team to a sixth-place finish out of 38 schools at the Colgate Invitational in Maple Shade, New Jersey on December 26-28. Ahl's 237.9 average was second out of 217 competitors.
According to CollegeBowling.com, Ahl leads the nation with a 239.8 average over 17 games. Washington State University's Curtiss Bergheim is second among bowlers who have rolled at least 16 games with a 225.3 average.
Hudson Valley finished with a 210.3 average in the Colgate Invitational. The University of Kansas won the tournament, knocking down 10,390 pins (230.9 average).
On the women's side, Hudson Valley finished 19th out of 22 schools. Sophomore Erin Fagan (North Greenbush/Columbia High School) knocked down 1,781 pins (197.9 average) over nine games to finish 42nd out of 134 bowlers.
Following the Colgate Invitational, the Vikings traveled to Philadelphia for the Holiday Shootout, where the men finished third out of 11 schools and the women finished fifth out of seven schools in the tournament. The competition, which was held on December 29-30, was a Baker only format.
The men averaged 206 for the tournament, which trailed only Florida State University and Fresno State University. The Hudson Valley women averaged 181 for the event.
