The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball (11-5) program were victorious as they defeated the nationally ranked No. 2 Herkimer College 74-72 at the McDonough Sports Complex on Friday evening in Troy, NY.

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead on the Generals as they were led by the hot shooting from Trevor Green and Luke Bourgault in the opening half. The duo combined to score 29 of the team's 38 first half points. Green tallied 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc. He also added four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 17 minutes of action. Bourgault had the hot hand from behind the arc, shooting 3-of-4 from deep for 11 points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

In the second half, the Generals outscored Hudson Valley 39-36, but couldn't overcome the late game deficit in which the Vikings led by 10 points with about 5 minutes remaining in the game. Green and Bourgault continued to be the focal point of the Vikings offense as they combined to score 21 of the team's 36 second half points. Bourgault shot 5-of-6 from behind the arc and finished with 20 points, while Green finished with a game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds to help the Vikings win their fifth straight game.

This isn't the first time the Vikings upset a nationally ranked Herkimer program. Hudson Valley upset, then fourth-ranked Herkimer, 102-72 on the road on Nov. 10, 2018 behind a big double-double from All-Region standout O'Nandi Brooks.

The men are back in action on Tuesday, February 1 when they travel for a rescheduled match at Adirondack (5 PM), before returning home for a conference matchup with Fulton-Montgomery on Thursday, February 3 at 7 p.m.
