Men's Basketball Falls in Season Opener

The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team dropped its home open 95-84 to a tough Orange program on Thursday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.  

In its first competition since late February 2020, the Vikings men's basketball team had four members reach double-digit scoring and were led by sophomore Luke Bourgault. Bourgault finished with a team-high 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including a game-high three 3-point field goals. 

The men's game was a hard-fought match that featured 76 free throws as a result of 58 total fouls. Hudson Valley shot 29-of-39 from the free throw line and Orange finished 26-of37 from the stripe. 

Freshman guard Aristide Gateretse finished with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor and Eriks Veidemanis added 15 points in 31 minutes on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. Trevor Green posted 13 points with four assists and three steals.

The Orange Colts were led by Romeo Aquino, who posted a game-high 32 points in 39 minutes. Aquino shot 11-of-18 from the floor, including 10-of14 from the free throw line. 

The Vikings men's basketball program returns to action this Saturday as they travel to face the 2019 NJCAA National Champions, Herkimer Generals in Herkimer, NY with a scheduled start time of 1 p.m. The men will then travel to face Jefferson in Watertown, NY on Sunday, Nov. 7.
