The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team (6-4) defeated Finger Lakes Community College (4-4) 77-72 on Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings trailed the Lakers 41-24 at the end of the half, but Hudson Valley opened the second with a 14-2 run. After Brandon Palmer (Columbia/East Greenbush) hit back-to-back three-pointers, the Vikings took their first lead of the game with 12:13 remaining. Finger Lakes would quickly regain the lead until Christian Jones (Waterford/Waterford) made a jump shot with 31 seconds left to put Hudson Valley up 73-72. Caleb Canty (Hudson/Hudson) and Brandon Palmer sealed the win after each hit a pair of free throws.
The men shot an impressive 85% from the free-throw line, including Brandon Palmer going 23-24. Palmer led the Vikings with 41 points and is now ranked 8th in the Region for total points scored this season. Kevin Lenehan (Duanesburg, Delanson) contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds in the win, and he now ranks 7th for total points in the Region, one point ahead of Palmer.
The men travel to Corning tomorrow at 2 p.m., where they look to extend their winning streak.
