The Hudson Valley Community College (7-2/4-2 Region III) men's basketball team raced out to a 17-2 lead and never trailed in a 74-67 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College (5-1/4-1 Region III) this evening in Troy.
Fulton-Montgomery held a 50-33 rebounding advantage in the game and shot the ball 30 more times than the Vikings, but Hudson Valley was able to make the most of its shots. The Vikings connected on 51.1 percent (24-for-47) of its field goals while limiting the Raiders to just 32.5 percent (25-for-77) shooting.
Hudson Valley contested its opponent's shots the entire game. Sophomore forward Kevin Goutos (Altamont/Guilderland High School) blocked eight shots to go with his eight points. Sophomore Corey Harkins (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) had three block shots along with six rebounds and 10 points.
Sophomore guard Maurice Lane (Bakersfield, CA/West High School) led Hudson Valley with 17 points. Freshman guard Justin Gallo (Brunswick/Lansingburgh High School) added 10 points.
Fulton-Montgomery got a team-high 15 points from Carl Munnerlyn (Brooklyn/Canarsie High School). Roy Jenkins (Harlem/Frederick Douglas Academy) added 13 points.
