Vikings Add To Depth On Men's Hoop Squad

Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball coach Vince Medici recently announced his incoming recruits for the 2001-02 season. The following student athletes have verbally committed to Hudson Valley: Joe Dickson (Troy), Rahiem Jones (Albany), Justin McAllister (Catholic Central) and Nate Seabrone (Plattsburgh).
Dickson, a 6-foot-4 forward, brings a solid all-around game to Hudson Valley. A Troy High School graduate, he averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game during his senior campaign. The team's top scorer, he led Troy to an 11-10 overall record and a 10-6 Big 10 mark.
A 6-foot-1 point guard, Jones helped Albany high post a 10-10 overall record in 2000-01. He averaged four points, three assists and two rebounds per game.
A 6-foot-3 guard/forward, McAllister was the second-leading scorer on a Catholic Central High School squad that went 13-8 overall and 10-6 in Big 10 play in 2000-01. He averaged 14 points per game and led the Crusaders with 40 three-pointers. McAllister also averaged five rebounds and one assist per game.
Seabrone, a Plattsburgh High School graduate, contributed a team-high 14 points per game in 2000-01. The 6-foot-4 forward also averaged 6.7 rebounds and three assists, helping Plattsburgh qualify for post-season play.
Additionally, Hudson Valley's five graduating players have all announced their post-Viking intentions. All five will continue their academic and basketball careers at four-year colleges.
Guard/forward Kurt Bush (Newcomb-Minerva), who averaged 12 points, five rebounds and three assists per game in 2000-01, will attend SUNY Plattsburgh. R.J. Mann (Canajoharie) and Kyle Miller (Columbia) will both transfer to SUNY Oswego. Mann, a forward, averaged seven points, seven rebounds and one assist per game this past season while Miller, a point guard, contributed eight points, five assists and three rebounds per contest. Center Thomas Perren (Brotmanville, N.J.), who averaged 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists, will attend Kean University in New Jersey. Center Adam Vooris (Columbia), who averaged five points, six rebounds and two assists per game in 2000-01, will play next at SUNY Cortland.
In Medici's six seasons, the Vikings have racked up 119 wins and made an appearance at the NJCAA Division III national championship. This past season, Hudson Valley posted a 22-7 record and played in the NJCAA Division III Region III championship game.
Hudson Valley Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and fields 14 athletic teams. In the fall semester, the college sports a women's cross country, soccer, tennis and volleyball team, and a men's football and soccer team. In the winter semester, Hudson Valley's student-athletes can compete in women's basketball and bowling, and men's basketball, bowling and ice hockey. In the spring semester, women can play softball, and men can play lacrosse or baseball.
In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests in 2000-01. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
