The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team brought its four-game losing streak to an end with a win in the first game of the day but split the series following an extra-inning defeat in game two.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 6, Adirondack 3 (Final)

Connor Waiting had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run scored, three RBIs and a home run to guide the Vikings to a win in game one. Waiting put the Vikings on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two RBI double, scoring Tyree Jackson and Jeremy Taggart. Waiting later connected for a big fly to deep center field for a solo home run and helped extend the Vikings lead to 4-0.

Adirondack responded in the top of the fourth inning, which was assisted by a couple of throwing errors by Anthony Rizzo and the Timberwolves trailed 4-3 with three innings remaining in the game.

The game remained 4-3 in favor of Hudson Valley until the bottom of the sixth inning when Colin Lynch singled a line drive to center field for two RBIs, scoring Anthony Marino and Jackson, for the much-needed insurance runs.

Hunter Stolov shutdown the Timberwolves in the seventh inning for his fifth win of the season. Stolov allowed three runs (zero earned) on six hits and five strikeouts while facing only 29 batters.

GAME TWO: Adirondack 5, Hudson Valley 3 (Final)

The Vikings started the game strong as Lynch connected for a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Lynch's single down the left field line allowed Jackson to score from third. Jackson managed to reach base courtesy of a walk.

In the top of the second inning, Adirondack compiled three straight hits, which led to back-to-back scoring plays and the Vikings lead was quickly erased. Later in the second inning, Adirondack was able to put one more run on the board on an RBI single to the shortstop.

Trailing 3-1, Hudson Valley chipped away at their deficit as Brendan Connolly stole home following a double by Marino. The next inning, Hudson Valley completed the rally and tied the game up at 3-3 with one inning left to go in the game. Anthony Rizzo earned the big hit with allowed Waiting to score from second base to tie the game.

Both teams were unable to score in the seventh and the game went into the eighth inning. Adirondack strung together a pair of hits, which was combined with an untimely walk, allowed Adirondack to score two runs in the inning and all of the pressure fell on the Vikings to respond in the bottom half of the inning, or the game would be over.

The Vikings were unable to score, but they did not go quietly as they had runners on second and third with two outs and they ran out of time as Adirondack won the season series 3-1 over HVCC this season.

ON DECK:

Up next for the Vikings is another crucial Region 3 series as they travel to take on Mohawk Valley on Tuesday, April 23rd in Utica, NY before returning home to HVCC to host nationally-ranked Herkimer on Saturday, April 27.
