The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program continued its hot start to the 2024 season as they went on the road and completed the doubleheader sweep of Holyoke on Wednesday afternoon in Holyoke, Mass.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 10, Holyoke 0 (6 innings)

Tyree Jackson and Jeremy Taggart had a big first game, which included a seven-run second inning where the duo doubled and hit a home run and drove in four runs to help put the game out of reach early. Following a leadoff walk by Colin Lynch, Jayden Kennedy, this week's Region 3 baseball player of the week, hit a double to set up Taggart's two-RBI double down the right field line, scoring Lynch and Kennedy.

In the next at-bat, Jackson sent a 1-0 pitch deep over the center field fence for a two-run home run and pushed the Vikings lead up to 4-0. Following the home run, Ethan Pues kept the pressure on Holyoke as he sent a two-strike pitch down the left field line for the team's third double of the inning. Pues would score later in the inning on an RBI single by Matthew Carrera.

Jackson finished the day with three hits in three at-bats, which included a single, double and the big second inning home run and tallied two runs and two RBIs. Taggart collected two hits in three at-bats and scored two runs with two RBIs.

On the mound, Jimmy Wilson and Owen Simonsen combined for a no-hitter with Wilson tossing five innings of no-hit baseball. Wilson walked three batters and struck out nine, while Simonsen closed out the final inning, allowing zero hits and struck out one batter.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 13, Holyoke 1 (5 innings)

In the final game of the day, the Vikings did not waste any time as they scored runs in each of the five innings played. Returners Connor Waiting and Colin Lynch had huge performances at the plate as they both collected three hits and scored a total of four runs.

Waiting had the big hit in the fourth inning when he sent a 2-1 pitch deep for a solo home run to jumpstart the Vikings 3-run fourth inning rally. By the end of the fourth inning, the Vikings had full control of the game, leading Holyoke 10-1.

Matthrew Castrogiovanni collected two hits with an RBI and one run scored and Brendan Connolly, Brendan Curry, Waiting and Kennedy all tallied extra-base hits.

On the mound, Richie Tamsett earned the start and had a productive two innings in which he allowed one run on two hits. Kwintin Nurse entered the game in relief, tossing two shutout innings while allowing one hit and four strikeouts. Cole Flannery closed out the game and allowed just one hit while striking out two batters. Overall, the Vikings pitchers were dominant as they combined to strikeout 17 batters over the course of the two games and allowed just one run over the 11 innings played.
