Baseball Eliminated by Erie

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (22-11) was eliminated from postseason play after they were defeated by Erie on Saturday, May 11 at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. 

Game One: Erie 11, Hudson Valley 5 

Erie jumped out on Hudson Valley early with one run in the opening inning and they continued to extend their lead to 7-0 before the Vikings scored four runs in the sixth inning. Jackson Wenstrom jumpstarted the scoring in the sixth inning with a double. Nick Thomas drove in Wenstrom with an RBI triple down the line. Nick Hansen added a run with an RBI single, which allowed Riley Nagle to score. 

Wenstrom finished game one 2-for-5 at the plate and scored one run. Thomas also recorded two hits as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Hansen had back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth and sixth inning. 

Game Two: Erie 10, Hudson Valley 5

In the second game, Erie scored eight runs in the third and fourth inning to eliminate the Vikings from the NJCAA Region 3 postseason. 

Vicente Mendoza led the way for the Vikings with two home runs, including a home run in the first inning to give the Vikings an early 1-0 lead. Mendoza connected for his second home run in the fifth inning with a two-run shot over the fence. 

Thomas continued to swing a hot bat as well and finished 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in an RBI with a single in the third inning.
