The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (9-9) defeated Fulton-Montgomery Community College (5-9) on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings won game one 21-16 and then took game two, 12-7.
In game one, the Vikings scored in every inning but the fourth, scoring five runs in the first three innings, and 16 in the final three innings. Jimmy Griffin (Watervliet/Watervliet) earned his first win of the season after striking out three and allowing one hit in 2.2 innings.
Luuk Visser (Thorbecke Voortgezet Onderwijs The Hague/Netherlands) led the Vikings, going 4-6 at the plate with an RBI. Dominick Herald (CBA/Colonie) and Nicolas Teitter (Saugerties/Saugerties) each recorded four RBIs in the victory.
Hudson Valley fell behind early in game two, but a 10-run rally in the last two innings secured their ninth win of the season.
Danny Coleman (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) hit a grand slam, and Jon Montesanti (Colonie/Niskayuna) added three hits and four RBIs to lead the Vikings. Teitter and Mike Graves (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) each recorded a homerun in the victory.
Nicholas Zuba (Columbia/East Greenbush) earned the win on the mound with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings, and Brien Hollowood (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) came in relief, striking out the final two batters.
The Vikings travel to Schenectady on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
