The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (4-2) split with Genesee Community College (3-11) on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings won game one, 7-1, but lost game two, 5-3.
Hudson Valley scored three runs in the third on an RBI double by Matt Sand (CBA/Altamont) and an RBI single by Eric Mueller (Bethlehem/Glenmont). The two combined for five hits and four RBIs to lead the Vikings in the game one win. Mike Sunkes (Catholic Central/Waterford) got the win on the mound allowing only one earned run, tallying eight strikeouts in five innings of work.
In game two, the Vikings scored three runs in the bottom of the second to make it 4-3, but couldn't get any more runs across the plate. An RBI single by Cameron Bow (Mt. Anthony Union/Shaftsbury, VT) and a two-run single by Zach Steimer (N/A/Ballston Spa) sparked the three-run rally, but it wasn't enough.
The Vikings host Monroe College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
