The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (15-9) defeated Columbia-Greene Community College (9-19) 6-0 and 7-6 on Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings put two runs on the board in the first inning of game one, and tacked on four more in the fifth and sixth to earn the 6-0 victory. Josh Temple (Cohoes/Cohoes) was outstanding on the hill throwing a complete game shutout, striking out eight and walking none. Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) leads the Nation in batting and added three hits, a run scored and two stolen bases. Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs), Mike Sunkes (Catholic Central/Waterford) and Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) each contributed two hits in the shutout win.
John Craig (Shenedehowa/Clifton Park) drove in Kozak in the bottom of the sixth to give the Vikings a 7-2 lead heading into the final inning of game two. That run proved to be huge as Columbia-Greene made a late rally in the seventh, but fell short scoring only four runs to fall, 7-6. Parslow received the win throwing six innings, giving up two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts. Mike Brienza (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Ballston Lake) came in in the seventh to close out the game to earn the save. Lushkevich and Craig led the team with two hits each, and Parslow added a double and three RBIs in the victory.
The Vikings host their final game on the year in a 9-inning game against Holyoke on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
