The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (8-6) split with SUNY Adirondack (8-9) on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings won game one in eight innings 12-5, but lost game two 12-10.
Hudson Valley trailed 5-2 heading into the seventh in game one, but a two-run homerun by Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) cut the lead to one. A few batters later, Matt Leonardo (Colonie/Colonie) came in and delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to take the game to extra innings. The Vikings ran away with the game in the eighth, scoring seven runs to earn the victory. Scaccia led the team going 3-4 at the plate with two homeruns, three RBIs and three runs scored. Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) added three hits of his own, and Mike Verschelden (Chatham/Chatham) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.
The Vikings jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in game two, but Adirondack scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to edge the Vikings 12-10. Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) led the team going 4-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. John Craig (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) added two hits and four RBIs, and Parslow chipped in a pair of hits and two RBIs.
The Vikings turnaround and host SUNY Adirondack tomorrow at 1 p.m.
