The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (26-14-1) lost to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Junior Varsity team 5-1 on Thursday afternoon. It was the last regular season game for the Vikings and a special day for all baseball fans. While the two teams were playing, the San Francisco Giants' 2010 World Series trophy was on display in Joe Bruno Stadium.
Earlier today it was announced that pitcher Bryan Lajeunesse (Albany Academy/Watervliet) and outfielder Tyler Young (Shaker/Latham) were both named to the Mountain Valley All-Conference Team. Lajeunesse also finished second in Player of the Year voting, boasting a perfect 5-0 record on the mound with a 1.96 ERA. Young is batting a .342 on the season with two home runs and 29 RBIs.
It was also announced that the number- one seeded Vikings will host Jamestown Community College in a best-of-three Sub-Regional series. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 7 beginning at 1 p.m., and then again on Sunday if necessary.
