The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (14-12) split a doubleheader with Mohawk Valley Community College (8-11) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings came up short in game one, losing 8-6, but fought back in game two, winning 4-2.
In the first game, Tyler Young's (Shaker/Latham) two-run home run was not enough to capture the victory. The Vikings had a chance in the seventh inning with runners in scoring position with one out, down two runs, but a ground out and pop out ended the game, 8-6.
In game two, Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game at two. Massaroni came up big again in the sixth, hitting a double and advancing to third on a throwing error with no outs. The very next batter, Nick Papas (Maple Hill/Castleton), hit a triple to put the Vikings in the lead, 3-2. Sean Geisel (Guilderland/Guilderland) added an insurance run with a sac fly helping Hudson Valley to the 4-2 win.
