Freshman pitcher Chris Chisena (Troy/Troy High School) pitched a complete-game six-hitter to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (23-14/19-5 Region III) baseball team to a 5-3 win over Herkimer County Community College (26-6/18-5 Region III) in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy. Herkimer took the opener, 9-5.
With the win in the nightcap, Hudson Valley clinched its third Mountain Valley Conference championship in the last four years. The Vikings posted a 12-2 conference record.
Chisena allowed just two earned runs, striking out three and walking six to earn the victory.
Sophomore Brett Weber's (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) two-run double sparked a four-run second inning to give Hudson Valley a 4-2 lead it would not relinquish. Weber finished the opener two-for-three.
Hudson Valley took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in the opener on a two-run home run by freshman Scott Robinson (Schenectady/Mohonasen High School) and a solo shot by sophomore Nick Barbera (Niskayuna/Niskayuna High School).
