Two Hudson Valley Community College student-athletes were recognized by the NJCAA for their pitching performances last week.
Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School), a sophomore on the Hudson Valley softball team, was named the NJCAA Division III Player and Pitcher of the Week and Region III Female Athlete of the Week. Chesebrough tossed her fourth career no-hitter on April 9 against Corning Community College, striking out 14 and issuing just one walk. Then five days later on April 14, she gave up just one hit and struck out a school record 18 in a 1-0 win over Tompkins Cortland Community College. Chesebrough has won 11 consecutive games to run her record to 12-4 this season. She has struck out 168 batters and walked just eight in 89.1 innings of work.
Nate Novak (Hudson/Hudson High School), a sophomore on the Hudson Valley baseball team, was named the NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week. Novak tossed a five-inning no-hitter agaisnt Adirondack Community College on April 10. He struck out 12 and walked just one batter in the 10-0 win. Novak then picked up his fourth win of the season on April 14 when he went six innings in a 10-0 win over Schenectady County Community College, allowing just one hit and striking out nine. Novak is 4-1 with a 2.20 earned run average this season.
