Freshman pitcher Nate Novak (Hudson/Hudson High School) allowed only one run on three hits over eight innings of work to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (15-11/8-2 Region III) baseball team to a 6-3 win over Schenectady County Community College (10-8/5-2 Region III) earlier today in Troy.
Novak struck out 11 and walked five and improved his record to 5-1 on the season.
Hudson Valley scored five runs in the fourth inning. Freshman Matt LaValley (Schenectady/Guilderland High School) and sophomore Ben Bushey (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls High School) led off the inning with back-to-back doubles to give Hudson Valley a 2-1 lead. Freshman Don Reilly (Troy/Troy High School) and sophomore Tom Zink (Guilderland/Guilderland High School) also had RBI singles in the inning.
Zink finished the game two-for-four at the plate and freshman Chris Guido (Ft. Pierce, FL/Westwood High School) was two-for-three with two runs scored.
Sophomore Marvin Rozon (Manhattan) hit a two-run home run for Schenectady in the ninth inning. Freshman Matt Frey (Clifton Park) was three-for-five at the plate.
