The Hudson Valley Community College (31-13) baseball team advanced to NJCAA Region III final four for the eight consecutive season with a 7-2 win over Schenectady County Community College (22-13) earlier tonight in Troy.
Hudson Valley, the tournament's second seed, will host the winner of today's game between No. 3 Jamestown Community College and No. 6 Herkimer County Community College at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13. The double elimination tournament will be played at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium from Friday to Sunday, May 15.
Hudson Valley bunted and stole its way to a win. Freshman Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School), who finished the game with two hits, had a sacrifice squeeze bunt in the seventh inning. Sophomore Jose Duverge (Brooklyn/Christ the King High School) had two hits and stole three bases.
The Vikings finished with eight stolen bases in the game.
Sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) had a triple and freshman Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) hit a solo home run to left field in the eighth inning.
Sophomore pitcher William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) labored his way through 6.2 innings to pick up the win for the Vikings and improve his record to 7-2 on the season. Although he did not allow a hit, he walked eight batters and hit three, allowing two runs.
Charlie Santos (Brooklyn) and Justin Crawford (Amsterdam) each finished one-for-two at the plate for Schenectady.
