Sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) was three-for-five with a double and five RBI to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (28-11/11-2 Mountain Valley Conference) baseball team to a 14-9 win over Morrisville State College (8-19/4-9) tonight at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.
With the win, Hudson Valley clinches its second consecutive Mountain Valley Conference title.
Morrisville plated six runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead, but the Vikings responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and scored four insurance runs in the eighth inning to secure the victory.
Sophomore Phil Carr (Onteora High School) pitched the final 3.1 innings in relief for the Vikings to pick up the win and improve his record to 4-0 on the year. He limited the Mustangs to one hit, striking out two and walking one.
Sophomore Craig Mastroianni (Colonie/Colonie High School) was three-for-three with a double and two RBI for Hudson Valley. Freshmen Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) and Jesse Bulka (Summitt/Jefferson High School), and sophomores Paul Pietrowski (Beacon/Beacon High School) and Carmine Berghela (Albany/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) added two hits apiece.
Morrisville catcher Andy Stopchick (Morrisville-Eaton High School) had a two-run home run.
Hudson Valley will travel to Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday, May 7 for a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.
