Freshman pitcher Marvin Rozon (Chelsea) pitched a complete game, allowing five runs on seven hits, in leading the Schenectady County Community College (18-7/11-4 Region III) baseball team to a 7-5 win over Hudson Valley Community College (25-10/16-2 Region III) earlier today at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Royals, and gave them the season sweep over Hudson Valley. The Vikings, ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, have dropped three of their last four contests.
Rozon struck out seven and walked five, and was able to overcome six Schenectady errors.
A two-run double by Bob Studnicky (Fort Edward) and a two-run single by Dan Ciarmiello (Scotia) sparked a four-run third inning for Schenectady. Each finished the game with two RBI. Ciarmiello, Charles Wilson (Brooklyn) and Rob Hisert (Amsterdam) finished the game with two hits apiece for the Royals.
Hudson Valley had runners on second and third base in the bottom of the ninth inning, but a long fly ball by Craig Mastroianni (Colonie/Colonie High School) was caught by Ciarmiello in center field.
Sophomore Joel Molina (Middletown/Middletown High School) finished with a hit and two RBI for the Vikings. He currently ranks fourth on the college's all-time hit list with 86 hits.
Hudson Valley will travel to Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Saturday, April 30 for a doubleheader that begins at noon.
