Hudson Valley Community College (24-7) came from behind in each game to sweep a doubleheader from SUNY Canton (0-15) in Region III baseball action earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 5-1, and the nightcap, 11-2.
Freshmen Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) and Jesse Bulka (Summitt/Jefferson High School) each had two hits and an RBI for the Vikings in the first game. Sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) added a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Sophomore pitcher Anthony Bloomfield (Albany/Bishop Maginn High School) scattered six hits over seven innings. He allowed one run, striking out nine and walking none.
Testo had two hits and drove in three runs in the second game. Freshman Christian Gonzalez (Brooklyn/Progress High School) also had two hits and drove in a run.
Sophomore pitcher Vince Laviano (Troy/Troy High School) gave up four hits and two runs in four innings to pick up the win. He struck out five and walked two.
Hudson Valley will host Dutchess Community College at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20.
