The Hudson Valley Community College (15-6) baseball team recorded its fourth doubleheader sweep in five days with a pair of wins over Corning Community College (5-9) earlier today in Troy.
Sophomore pitcher Mike Ruffinen (Wynantskill/Troy High School) hurled a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Vikings in the opener. He struck out two and walked none to improve his record to 1-1 on the year.
Freshman shortstop Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) had two hits and drove in three runs for the Vikings in the first game. Sophomore Carmine Berghela (Albany/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) had two hits, including a double, and sophomore Jose Duverge (Brooklyn/Christ the King High School) added a two-run double.
Sophomore second baseman Joel Molina's (Middletown/Middletown High School) two-run single up the middle sparked a four-run fourth inning for the Vikings in the nightcap. He finished the game with a hit and three RBI. Sophomore Craig Mastroianni (Colonie/Colonie High School) and freshman Christian Gonzalez (Brooklyn/Progress High School) also drove in a run apiece in the game.
Sophomore Phil Carr allowed three hits and one run in five innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. He struck out one and walked none. Sophomore Sean Rowland (Colonie/Colonie high School) pitched the final inning of relief to earn the save.
Hudson Valley will visit Schenectady County Community College on Tuesday, April 12. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
