Anthony Bloomfield's Five-Inning No-Hitter Leads Vikings in Game One
The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team tied a school record for wins in a season with a doubleheader sweep over Finger Lakes Community College earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 10-0, and the nightcap, 3-2.
Hudson Valley, which has won 18 of its last 19 games, improves its record to 33-8 on the season, tying the 2001 team for wins in a season. The 2001 team finished 33-10. Finger Lakes falls to 18-20.
Freshman pitcher Anthony Bloomfield (Albany/Bishop Maginn High School) tossed his first career no-hitter in the opener, which was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run rule. He struck out four and walked one.
It is the Vikings' second no-hitter of the season. Freshman Nate Jones (Horseheads/Horseheads High School) held Onondaga Community College hitless on April 12.
Freshman Craig Mastroianni (Colonie/Colonie High School) had two hits and five RBI to power the Hudson Valley offense in the opening game. Sophomore Steve Sayre (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) had three hits and scored three runs.
Sophomore Ryan Gijon-Owen (Puebla, Mexico/Bowie, TX High School) hit a two-run double to give the Vikings a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning of the nightcap.
Freshman pitcher K.K. Pierce (Honolulu, HI/Saratoga Springs High School) improved to 5-1 on the mound this season. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two unearned runs on nine hits. He fanned five and walked none.
