Nate Jones Tosses No-Hitter
Freshman pitcher Nate Jones (Horseheads/Horseheads High School) tossed a no-hitter to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (17-7) baseball team to a 5-0 win over Onondaga Community College (0-14) in the second game of a doubleheader played earlier today at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Hudson Valley also won the opening game, 6-5.
Jones struck out 10 and walked only three for the first no-hitter of his college career. It was the first Hudson Valley no-hitter since April 16, 2001.
Sophomore Rashad Barksdale (Hudson/Hudson High School) was two-for-three with a double and two stolen bases to lead the Vikings at the plate. Sophomore Kody Caulfield (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) also had two hits in the nightcap.
Sophomore Steve Sayre (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) and freshman Carmine Berghela (Albany/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) each had a pair of hits to lead Hudson Valley in the opening game. Sophomore Rafael Espinal (New York/George Washington High School) pitched five innings, allowing four runs on three hits, to pick up the win on the mound.
