Sophomore Ryan Gijon-Owen (Puebla, Mexico/Bowie, TX High School) drove in four runs and sophomore Kody Caulfield (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) was three-for-three with two RBI to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (15-7) baseball team to a 14-4 win over Mohawk Valley Community College (5-6) in the opening game of a doubleheader played earlier today at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Mohawk Valley rebounded to take the second game, 5-3.
Sophomores Steve Sayre (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) and Rashad Barksdale (Hudson/Hudson High School) also contributed two-hits apiece for the Vikings in the opener.
Freshman K.K. Pierce (Honolulu, HI/Saratoga Springs High School) picked up the win on the mound for Hudson Valley. He went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out two and walked two.
Sayre had a three-run triple to put the Vikings ahead 3-1 in the first inning of the nightcap, but Hudson Valley was unable to plate another run and eventually succumbed to the visiting Hawks.
