Schenectady County Community College scored four runs in the sixth inning and held on to defeat Hudson Valley Community College, 4-3, in the opening round of the NJCAA Region III tournament played tonight at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.
The Schenectady County battery of Ryan Tatlock (Amsterdam) and Will Horan (Ballston Lake) did most of the damage for the Royals. Tatlock went the distance on the mound, allowing only three runs on six hits. He struck out four batters. Horan was three-for-four including a key two-run double to left-center field in the sixth inning that gave Schenectady a 4-2 lead.
Sophomore Daniel Barbero (Bronx/Lehman High School) was two-for-four with an RBI to pace Hudson Valley. Sophomore pitcher Justin Maloney (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) drops to 3-3 on the year after allowing four runs on 10 hits.
