Several former Hudson Valley Community College baseball players are having standout seasons with their respective college teams, including three former players who are leading their current teams in hitting. Highlighted below are those players making significant contributions to their present clubs:
Justin Beach (Troy)
Justin Beach is hitting .319 (29-for-91) with four home runs and 23 runs batted in this season at SUNY Brockport. He also has seven doubles and six stolen bases. Beach batted .295 (39-for-132) for Hudson Valley in 2001.
Silvestre Castro (New York)
A two-time All-Mountain Valley Conference performer and NJCAA All-American, Silvestre Castro is batting .333 (34-for-102) to lead SUNY New Paltz. He also has five doubles, six triples, three home runs and 21 RBI this season. Castro established Hudson Valley single season records with 60 runs and 10 triples in 2001.
Jason Lansing (Trumansburg)
Jason Lansing is batting .302 (26-for-86) with a team-high four home runs and 17 RBI for the SUNY Institute of Technology. Lansing hit .298 (36-for-121) with a homer and 15 RBI for Hudson Valley last spring.
Jason Martin (Newburgh)
Hudson Valley's single-season hits and home runs leader, Jason Martin is hitting .363 (45-for-124) to lead the University at Albany this season. He also has one home run and 20 RBI. Last year at Hudson Valley, Martin hit .432 (64-for-148) and set school single-season standards for hits (64) and home runs (8).
Aaron Marchese (Cape Cod, MA)
A Second-Team All-Region III performer last season at Hudson Valley, Aaron Marchese is 3-1 with a 5.49 earned run average at Coker College, an NCAA Division II school located in Hartsville, South Carolina. Marchese has fanned 50 batters in 60.2 innings of work.
Ryan McGinniss (Latham)
A Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference performer in 2001, Ryan McGinniss is hitting a team-best .361 (53-for-147) at SUNY Oneonta. He has accumulated 11 doubles, three home runs and 27 RBI thus far this year.
Shawn Miller (Troy)
An All-Mountain Valley Conference performer at Hudson Valley last season, Justin Miller is currently 5-1 with a 3.63 earned run average at West Virginia University. On Saturday, May 3 Miller pitched well in a 1-0 loss at 13th-ranked Notre Dame. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 18.2 innings pitched.
Chad Sydor (Troy)
Chad Sydor is batting .346 (18-for-52) with one home run and 10 RBI for Clarkson University this season. He also has six stolen bases. Sydor will return home this weekend as Clarkson will play in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association tournament at RPI on May 9-11.
