Troy, N.Y., May 4, 2002 - Hudson Valley Community College took a pair of baseball games from Fulton-Montgomery Community College this afternoon. In game one at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, Hudson Valley's Bobby Krogh (Troy H.S.) went the distance on the mound, striking out six batters and leading the Vikings to a 3-2 victory. Hudson Valley exploded offensively in the second contest, sending 15 batters to the plate in the first inning en route to an 18-3 win.
With the first game tied at one run apiece in the bottom of the fourth, Hudson Valley's Jason Lansing (Trumansburg H.S.) legged out a two-out infield single. He stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. Shawn Miller (Troy H.S.) followed by drawing a walk and stealing second uncontested. Josh Goodbred (Lansingburgh H.S.) then ripped a hopper toward second base, and a throwing error on the play allowed Lansing and Goodbred to score.
Hudson Valley would not trail again, and Krogh improved his record to 5-0.
Thanks to five hits, four walks and four F-MCC errors, the Vikings scored nine runs in the bottom of the first frame in game two. All nine Hudson Valley starters reached first base in the first. The Vikings sent nine batters to the plate in the second and third innings.
Jason Martin (Pine Bush H.S.), Justin Meagher (Colonie H.S.) and Gennys Medina (Norman Thomas H.S.) each had a pair of hits in the second contest, which was shortened to five innings because of a 10-run mercy rule. Meagher scored three runs and had two runs batted in; Martin had a two-run double and he scored twice; and Medina rapped a triple and scored three times.
Aaron Marchese (Dennis-Yarmouth H.S., MA), Sean McGuire (Pine Bush H.S.) and John Doerr (Shenendehowa H.S.) combined to hold F-MCC to three hits.
Hudson Valley is now 29-12-1 overall and 19-1 in NJCAA Division III Region III action. F-MCC is 10-16 overall and 9-9 in Region III.
