Hudson Valley Community College's baseball and softball teams are both ranked No. 1 among NJCAA Division III Region III teams on the most recent Region III athletic report, which was released on April 9. The weekly Region III report encompasses more than 30 colleges from across the Northeast.
Hudson Valley's baseball team, which competed in the 2001 NJCAA Division III World Series, is 5-0 in Region III competition and 11-9-1 overall.
Catcher Jason Martin (Pine Bush H.S.), who has a pair of home runs, leads Region III with 16 runs batted in. Aaron Marchese (Dennis-Yarmouth H.S., MA) has recorded the second-most strikeouts of any Region III pitcher (24). Bobby Krogh (Troy H.S.) is third with 23 strikeouts.
The college's softball squad is 4-0 in Region III action and 5-5 overall. The Lady Vikings are currently ranked No. 4 in the nation among Division III teams.
In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
