Volleyball Defeated in Final Pod of 2018

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team played well at the Adirondack pod and nearly pulled out a couple of wins but couldn't pull out any match wins at the Fulton-Montgomery pod on Saturday. 

Vikings (4-15) vs. Fulton-Montgomery

The Vikings dropped their first match of the day to Broome in four sets 3-1(25-15, 26-24, 21-25, 25-18). Hudson Valley combinedfor 35 kills and 82 digs and 20 assists with 23 service aces in the four-game match. 

Jessica Getty (Hartford/Hartford) led the Vikings attack with nine kills on 18 attempts and finished with a team-high .444 hitting percentage. Madeline Jenkins (East Greenbush/Columbia) added seven kills and 14 digs in four-sets. 

Kirstin Wood (Colonie/Colonie) finished with a team-high 23 digs and added a team leading seven service aces. Laura Grippin (Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) also finished with double-digit digs as she tallied 19 digs and added two service aces. 

Vikings (4-16) vs. Herkimer 

The Vikings were defeated by Herkimer in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-22). The Vikings combined for 32 kills, 21 assists and 65 digs. 

Getty continued to hit the ball well on the Vikings attack. She finished with a team-high eight kills on 20 attempts for a .300 hitting percentage. Getty also added three digs and two solo blocks. 

Grippin tallied a team-high 22 digs while Wood added 15 digs with seven kills and six service aces.

Vikings (4-17) vs. Mohawk Valley

The Vikings were defeated in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-22) by Mohawk Valley. The Vikings combined for 21 kills, 14 assists, 15 service aces and 42digs.  

Getty led the Vikings attack with six kills on 14 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage. Getty added five service aces, three digs and three solo blocks. Grippin finished the match with a team-high 16 digs.

Volleyball returns to the court on Monday, October 15 when they travel to play Ulster at 7 p.m.
