The Hudson Valley Community College baseball program earned a doubleheader sweep over Schenectady on Saturday afternoon at Joe Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
Game One: Hudson Valley 15, Schenectady 0 (5 Innings)
Vikings pitcher Tim Cramer (Colonie/Colonie) took the mound in game one and tossed a complete game, one-hitter as the Vikings jumped out early on the Royals with a seven run first inning.
Derrick Miller (Westernville/Rome Free Academy) started the game off with a lead-off double. Following back-to-back walks via the hit-by-pitch, Vicente Mendoza (cleared the based with a three-run double. Matt Dagostino (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) followed Mendoza with an RBI double to push the Vikings first inning lead to 4-0. Miller finished the game with 3 hits, two runs scored and one RBI.
Game Two: Hudson Valley 18, Schenectady 1 (5 Innings)
In the second game, the Vikings offense was running on all cylinders as they scored at least four runs in every inning of game two. Hudson Valley jumped out to a four-run advantage in the home half of the first inning, which was highlighted by a three-run home run by Dagostino.
The Vikings scored another four runs in the second, which featured back-to-back home runs by Miller and Riley Nagle (Dolgeville/Dolgeville). Miller hit a two-run shot over the left center fence and Nagle launched a solo shot to deep right field.
Jackson Wenstrom (Mandan, N.D./Mandan) joined the party in the fourth inning as he connected on a pitch for a three-run blast over the right centerfield fence.
Kyle Lambert (Colonie/Colonie) went the distance on the mound for Hudson Valley, tossing five innings and allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
Hudson Valley is back in action tomorrow, March 31 as they travel to Schenectady for a doubleheader against the Royals. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m and will be played at the "A" diamond in Central Park at 500 Iroquois Way in Schenectady, NY.
