TONIGHT! Hudson Valley Kicks off SUNY Chancellor's Esports Challenge (7PM)

Today is the day! The SUNY Chancellor's Challenge starts tonight with all five Vikings esports teams in action beginning at 7 PM. The State University of New York has launched a system-wide esports tournament and Hudson Valley Community College has joined the games. Nearly 40 colleges have signed up for the three-week competition, which will officially begin Monday, April 27.

HVCC will be entering five teams across three games in the SUNY Chancellor Esports Challenge Co-Sponsored by Extreme Networks. The Hudson Valley esports teams will be playing against approximately 40 other SUNY Colleges for a $20,000 prize pool slated for COVID-19 relief efforts through the #SUNYTogether fund. 

FORTNITE DUOS – MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2020 (7 PM)

Fortnite is a survival game where up to 100 players fight against each other in player versus player combat to be the last one standing. It is a fast-paced, action-packed game, similar to the plot in the popular books, The Hunger Games, where strategic thinking is a must in order to survive. The SUNY Esports tournament will be played in Duo mode, where the teams of two players battle each other in a best-of-5 series, leaving the last team standing victorious.  

Match #1: HVCC FN Team 1 vs. BSC Buffaloes

In the opening night of the Fortnite Duos Round Robin tournament, the Vikings Fortnite team of Shawn Treaster and softball student-athlete Emma Rafferty are set to take on a duo out of Buffalo State College, Meghan Noll and Anthony Marinelli.

Match #2: HVCC FN Team 2 vs. Coby Builders

The second Fortnite match features the Vikings football student-athletes Musa Hemby and Billy Hollis as the 17th ranked Fortnite team. They will take on No. 20 Coby Builders, Brycen Franek and Jesse Hodge out of SUNY Cobleskill.

ROCKET LEAGUE 3V3 - MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2020 (7:30 PM)

Rocket League is a high-powered hybrid of arcade-style soccer and vehicular mayhem. Described as "soccer with rocket-powered cars", the goal is to score as many goals as possible over the course of the match. The SUNY Esports tournament will feature 3v3 teams in a best-of-5 series beginning with round robin group play. 

Match #1: HVCC RL Team 1 vs. Downstate's Rocket League: WATCH LIVE

Hudson Valley students Harlan JacksonSkyler Williams, and Zarek Thomas form the Rocket League trio who will compete for the No. 23 ranked Vikings in Group G. Their first match of round robin play is against No. 10 Downstate's Rocket League, featuring Derek Chang, David Mandil and Patrick Flanagan from SUNY Downstate Health Science University.

SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE - MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2020 (7 PM)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover fighting game that features characters from the from the Super Smash Bros. series, which includes the likes of Super Mario. The goal of the game is to smash opponents off the playing stage to win the battle. The SUNY Esports tournament will be a best-of-5 series during the group play.  

Jarred Fink and Bill Gannon will compete for Hudson Valley in SUNY Esports Super Smash Bros. Ultimate singles tournament.

Match #1: HVCC SSBU Team 1 (Bill Gannon) vs. SUNY Canton Esports Smash (A) (Nathan Lafary)

Bill Gannon enters the match as the battle favorite with a No. 29 ranking as he takes on No. 44 ranked Nathan Lafary from SUNY Canton.

The Vikings Jarred Fink has a tough draw as he is scheduled to compete against No. 17 ranked Austin Romano, a.k.a. GOLD from Dutchess Community College.
