Volleyball Drops Home Opener 3-1 to Herkimer

Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball (0-4) dropped a hard-fought match 3-1 at home against Herkimer on Wednesday evening. 

The Vikings had a strong start to the match after winning game one 25-20 and then struggled in the final two games to close out Herkimer as the Generals defeated the Vikings with back-to-back come from behind games to secure the win. 

In game four, the Vikings and Generals traded points back and forth, equaling each team's best shots. At the end of the game, Herkimer was able to come out on top 29-27 to win the game and the match 3-1. 

Kirstin Wood (Colonie/Colonie) led the Vikings with a career high 18 kills and 19 digs during the four-game match. Wood added seven service aces and Shayla Pfendler (Ava/Adirondack) led the Vikings with eight services aces.

Pfendler and Henna Matin (Waterford/Waterford-Halfmoon) combined for 27 assists with Matin finishing with 15 and Pfendler tallied 12 assists against the Generals. 

Laura Grippin (Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) had a good game defensively as she finished the match with 13 digs. As a team, Hudson Valley combined for 41 kills, 27 assists and 46 digs. 

The Vikings volleyball team is back in action this Saturday, September 15 when they travel to play Erie, Jamestown and Niagara as part of the Niagara Pod.
