Women's Tennis Wins First Match of Season

Women's Tennis defeats Herkimer 5-4 on 9/19/19

Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis (1-1) matched up well against the Herkimer Generals as they Vikings came out on top and won the match 5-4 on Thursday afternoon in Herkimer, NY. 

The Vikings top-seed Miranda Morrison played well against Stormy Vivian as she won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. 

Hudson Valley's No. 2 singles seed Ally Hammond faced Natalie Todd and earned her first win of the year, defeating Todd in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. 

Christina Cammarata also won her first set of her collegiate career as the Vikings No. 3 seed. Cammarata defeated Zayla St. John in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. 

Ngoc Nguyen played well for the Vikings in the No. 4 slot, but was defeated in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. 

In doubles action, the Vikings won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Led by the duo of Morrison and Hammond, who won their match 8-2 over St. John and Pay Taw. Cammarata and Ngoc won their match 8-1 to help the Vikings claim their first win of the season. 

The tennis team is back in action this Saturday, Sept. 21 and will be home for Hudson Valley's annual Homecoming Day. The Vikings will face off against Mohawk Valley at 1 p.m. on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.
