Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer made history on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Herkimer College 2–0 for the program's first victory over the Generals since 2013.
The Vikings controlled the pace from start to finish. Goalkeeper Olivia Kay earned the shutout in commanding fashion, anchoring a defensive unit that denied Herkimer a single shot attempt.
After a scoreless opening half, Hudson Valley broke through in the 65th minute when Alessia Salierno capitalized on a loose ball to fire home the opening goal. Salierno struck again in the 81st minute, finishing a setup from Majella Briggs to extend the lead and secure the win.
The victory not only improves Hudson Valley's season standing but also marks a major milestone in the long-standing rivalry between the two programs.
Hudson Valley will look to carry the momentum into its next matchup as the Vikings travel to Mohawk Valley Community College on October 20 for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
