Women's Soccer Extends Streak to Three Straight

The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team went on the road for a non-regional matchup against Holyoke Community College on Tuesday evening in Holyoke, Mass. and came home with their third consecutive win, improving to 6-5 on the year.

Three Vikings scored against a competitive Holyoke program, which began with Marilyn Decker scoring on a pass from Mikayla Bechtel at the 30-minute mark in the first half. The goal was Decker's seventh goal of the season.

In the second half, the Vikings started to play with a little more ease and comfort level and it became evident as they scored a pair of goals in a span of 12 minutes, pushing their lead to 3-0 with just under 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Bechtel earned her second assist of the game when she sent a cross from the right side of the goal to the left, finding Alison Waldron ready to score her fourth goal of the season. Minutes later, Bechtel recorded her fourth point of the game when she placed a shot right by the Holyoke goalkeeper for the score and her seventh goal of the season, tying Decker for the team lead in goals.

The women's soccer program is positioned for a postseason berth as they head to a key matchup at Jefferson on Saturday, Oct. 16, for a game with postseason seeding implications on the line.
