Women's Soccer Earns Another Key Region 3 Win

The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team was victorious on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Corning 5-2 for their second win in the last three days. 

The Vikings offensive barrage began early as Riley West scored on an Alison Waldron assist within the first two minutes of the game, giving Hudson Valley the 1-0 advantage. Hudson Valley would then score three more times within the next eight minutes of the game. 

Kaelyn McMullan was on the receiving end of a ricochet shot by Mikayla Bechtel, as McMullan found the easy net after the ball deflected off Corning's keeper and went right to McMullan. 

Less than on minute later, the Vikings score as Riley West sent a pass up the sideline and found an open Marilyn Decker, who sent the ball to the back of the net, giving Hudson Valley a 3-0 lead. Within seconds, Waldron joined in and score the Vikings fourth goal in the opening ten minutes of the game. 

Following the halftime break, Corning scored on a penalty kick, as Ava was tripped inside the keeper's box to earn a trip to the free shot attempt. She scored with a shot to the lower left side of the Vikings keeper, Samerpreet Kaur. 

One minute later, the Vikings responded as Marilyn Decker scored her second goal of the game and was assisted by Bechtel, her second assist. Corning scored their second goal on a well-placed free kick, which was sent to the far corner of the goal and into the back of the net.

The women's soccer program is inching closer to earning a NJCAA Region 3 postseason berth as they are now 5-5 among Region 3 and currently sit as the eight-seed.  They are schedule to take on a non-region opponent at Holyoke on Tuesday, Oct. 12, before traveling to Jefferson on Saturday, Oct. 16, for a game with additional postseason seeding implications on the line.
